Our History

The Heartland Center is a private, not for profit 501(c)(3)  charitable organization dedicated to providing substance abuse and other behavioral healthcare services to Missouri residents. We have been delivering services to communities since 1982 as the Kansas City Community Center. In 2013, we adopted a new name – the Heartland Center for Behavioral Change – to better reflect the organization we have become. We are proud of our past as the Kansas City Community Center and remain committed to helping people rebuild their lives.

For more than three decades, fidelity to our mission has been the hallmark of our organization. Helping people rebuild their lives has always been, and continues to be, the reason for our existence. We have built upon the vision of our founder – to deliver hope, healing and recovery to people suffering from addiction – to become an organization that provides a wide variety of rehabilitation and compassionate care services throughout the state of Missouri.

Over the last 30 years, we have made a difference in the lives of tens of thousands of people. Today’s success is a reflection of our past success
