Vivitrol Now Available at Heartland Center

This fall, Heartland Center began offering Vivitrol, (naltrexone) injections to eligible clients at a new Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Clinic in Kansas City. Medication Assisted Treatment, when coupled with counseling and behavioral therapy, is an evidence based practice that has proven effective in aiding in the treatment of substance use disorders.

Vivitorl is a monthly injectable effective in treating alcohol and opioid dependence. It is the only treatment option for alcohol and opioid dependence that is taken once a month and is non-addictive. Vivitrol blocks the effects of narcotic medicines and alcohol and helps prevent relapse by diminishing the cravings.

Patty Mathis, APRN, is leading the Heartland Center MAT Clinic, currently open Wednesday from 9 AM to 1 PM by appointment. Persons completing Heartland Center’s detoxification program and consumers actively participating in outpatient treatment are eligible to participate.

“Vivitrol is really life-changing for most people,” said Kyle Mead, Vice President. “We think doing this is going to make a huge impact.”
